1. Ante‑Post betting
Ante‑Post betting gives customers a chance to back Horses or Greyhounds in advance of the event. While often this means the price taken is more generous than a day of the race event, it comes with the risk that if your selection does not run, it is a loser (exceptions in rule 1.1).
Bets placed after the final declaration stage (normally 48 Hours before race) follow Early Prices / Day of Race Rules.
All Ante Post Events following Ante Post Rules are clearly marked.
1.1. When Ante‑Post bets become void
Ante‑Post bets become void only in the following circumstances:
If a race is abandoned and not rescheduled
If a race is abandoned and rescheduled at another racecourse
If your selection is “balloted out” or eliminated by Racing Authorities
If a race is rescheduled at the same racecourse, all Ante‑Post bets stand.
If the race reopens or returns to a previous declaration stage, customers may cancel Ante‑Post bets by mutual consent before the final declaration stage, by contacting Customer Services.
2. Double Result / First Past The Post
If your horse is First Past the Post in any UK or Irish race, you are paid as a winner in the Outright Market only.
If your horse is awarded the race or promoted to a place after a Stewards’ Enquiry or Objection announced before the weigh‑in, you are still paid.
Outside of the UK and Ireland the official result after weigh in applies only.
Double result does not apply to:
Horses that weigh in light or fail to weigh in
Void races
Official Judge corrections (for example, an incorrect initial announcement)
Racing outside the UK and Ireland (settled strictly Rules of Racing)
Any horse other than the original winner
Special markets such as Place Only, Match Bets, Lengthen the Odds, Without the Favourite or Daily Racing Specials
Forecast or Tricast bets
Maximum pay‑out for Double Result is £5,000 per customer per day (00.00–23.59 CET).
3. Withdrawals
Withdrawals in all horse races (excluding Ante‑Post bets) are subject to Tattersalls Rule 4(c) if a horse is withdrawn not under starter’s orders.
Settlement is adjusted according to the following Rule 4 deduction scale below:
Non‑Runner Price | Deduction |
1/9 or shorter | 90p in the £1 |
2/11 to 2/17 | 85p in the £1 |
1/4 to 1/5 | 80p in the £1 |
3/10 to 2/7 | 75p in the £1 |
2/5 to 1/3 | 70p in the £1 |
8/15 to 4/9 | 65p in the £1 |
8/13 to 4/7 | 60p in the £1 |
4/5 to 4/6 | 55p in the £1 |
20/21 to 5/6 | 50p in the £1 |
Evens to 6/5 | 45p in the £1 |
5/4 to 6/4 | 40p in the £1 |
13/8 to 7/4 | 35p in the £1 |
15/8 to 9/4 | 30p in the £1 |
5/2 to 3/1 | 25p in the £1 |
10/3 to 4/1 | 20p in the £1 |
9/2 to 11/2 | 15p in the £1 |
6/1 to 9/1 | 10p in the £1 |
10/1 to 14/1 | 5p in the £1 |
Over 14/1 | No deduction |
If two or more horses are withdrawn, the total deduction will not exceed 90p in the £1.
Where there is insufficient time to form a new market, SP bets may also be subject to Rule 4.
Occasionally, Rule 4 deductions may apply to other sporting events where explicitly advertised (either in these rules or at the event) that Tattersalls Rule 4 may apply.
4. Reserves
Some races include ‘Reserves’; these may be priced or not.
The finishing position of any reserve counts towards settlement regardless of whether they were priced.
If a reserve runner was priced and subsequently becomes a non‑runner, no Rule 4 deduction will be applied for that selection.
5. Dead Heat
In the event of a Dead Heat, the stake on the selection is divided by the number of runners involved in the tie.
Full odds are then applied to the reduced stake, and the remainder of the stake is lost.
6. Each‑Way betting
An each‑way bet consists of two parts: One part to win, One to Place – Effectively you are doubling your stake.
The number of runners is based on those coming under starter’s orders.
Each‑way accumulators are settled win‑to‑win and place‑to‑place.
If a race is reduced to fewer than 5 starters, each‑way bets become win‑only.
Standard Each‑Way Terms apply unless enhanced places are explicitly offered.
Standard Each‑Way Terms
Win only | All races | 2 - 4 runners |
1/4 odds 1,2 | All races | 5 - 7 runners |
1/5 odds 1,2,3 | All races | 8 - 11 runners |
1/5 odds 1,2,3 | Non-Handicaps | 12 or more runners |
1/4 odds 1,2,3 | Handicaps | 12 - 15 runners |
1/4 odds 1,2,3,4 | Handicaps | 16 or more runners |
6.1 Enhanced Each‑Way terms
Enhanced place terms will be clearly displayed on the site.
If the field size is reduced by non‑runners, enhanced terms revert as follows:
For 1/5 odds, 4‑place races:
If 10 or fewer run → revert to standard terms.
For 1/5 odds, 5‑place races:
If 11–15 run → pay 1/5 odds, first 4
If 10 or fewer run → revert to standard terms
For 1/5 odds, 6‑place races:
If 16–20 run → pay 1/5 odds, first 5
If 11–15 run → pay 1/5 odds, first 4
If 10 or fewer run → revert to standard terms
7. Run For Your Money — Concession
Refunds (in real cash) apply to losing win or each way bets on UK & Irish races where we believe a horse:
Refuses or whips around at the start
Fails to exit the stalls
Loses all chance at the start
Betano’s decision is final
Run for your money does not/will not apply to :
The Aintree Grand National.
Any market other than Outright market , for example place only, Lengthen The Odds, Match Bets or Without The Favourite
Ante Post Bets
Refund limits:
Single bets refunded up to £100 (per selection)
Multiple bets refunded up to £1,000 (per bet)
8. No Official SP returned
All races should return an official Starting Price (SP).
If no SP is returned, settlement uses the last price offered.
If no SP and no Show Price is available for a race, all bets are void.
9. Abandonments / Postponements
Single bets are void if a race or meeting is abandoned or officially declared void.
In multiple bets the selections affected are void and the rest will stand.
If meetings are abandoned and re‑run the next day with a new card, all bets are void and must be replaced.
10. Early Price races
Early Prices are offered on most races until the opening show prices.
Early Prices are subject to Tattersalls Rule 4(c).
If a horse is withdrawn not under orders, stakes on that horse are refunded.
Bets on remaining runners are settled with a Rule 4 deduction, based on the last Early Price available at withdrawal time .
11. Show Prices
These are the prices transmitted by data suppliers, generally 5–10 minutes before the race.
They remain available until the off.
Betano may use its own prices if a supplier failure occurs.
12. Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG)
If you take an Early Price or Show Price and the Starting Price (SP) is greater, Betano pays the bigger price.
Does not apply to Ante‑Post bets:
Applies to all UK & Irish racing bets placed after 9:00 UK Time (10:00 CET) on the day of the race.
Live in‑play bets do not qualify.
Not valid on extra/special markets, bet boosts, price boosts or super boosts.
Betano may withhold this or any offer at its discretion and without notice.
The maximum real cash benefit from Betano promotions, including BOG, is £10,000 per customer per day (00:00–23:59 CET), including returns from promotional cash wagers.
13. Forecasts (First and Second)
A forecast requires selecting the first and second horses in the correct order.
Prices cannot be taken; a dividend is declared after the race.
Forecast singles and doubles are accepted.
A minimum of three runners is required; otherwise the forecast is void.
Bets are settled from CSF (Computer Straight Forecast) returns from our current data suppliers.
If a horse finishes alone, meaning the only finisher in a race, a forecast dividend is still declared with the remaining runners.
If for any reason no dividend is declared, all bets are void.
Straight or reverse forecast bets containing a non-runner are void.
Combination Forecast Bets containing a non-runner, stakes are returned for the proportion of the bet with a non-runner.
Example 6* £1 Combination Forecast (three selections) total Stake £6 - If one selection is a non-runner, £4 is void stake and £1 reverse forecast on remaining selections stands.
14. Tricasts (First, second and third)
A Tricast requires predicting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the correct order.
Tricasts are accepted as single bets only.
Tricasts are accepted only on races where a Computer Tricast dividend is declared.
If no tricast dividend is declared, bets are settled as Computer Straight forecasts on 1st and 2nd; the 3rd‑place selection is ignored.
If a tricast includes one non‑runner → the stake becomes a straight forecast on the remaining two.
In combination tricasts, the stake becomes a reversed straight forecast on the remaining runners.
If a tricast includes two non‑runners, the stake is void.
If fewer than three horses finish, a tricast dividend is declared on those that do.
If horses Dead‑Heat for any tricast position (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), multiple dividends are declared and paid to each qualifying combination.
15. Settlement of bets
UK and Irish Horse racing bets are automatically settled on a Double Result basis unless otherwise stated or as detailed in the Double Result section.
Horse Racing bets outside of UK and Ireland and settled on official result only.
Ante-Post bets are settled strictly under Rules of Racing, unless otherwise advertised.
If a result is amended after weighing (for example, due to a successful appeal), the amendment is ignored for settlement.
16. Tote / Pari‑Mutuel betting
Betano does not accept bets at Tote, Pari‑Mutuel, or any equivalent pool betting system in any country.
17. Betting Without
Where markets are offered without a nominated selection (usually the favourite), the finishing position of the “without” horse is ignored for settlement.
Any each‑way terms apply to the number of runners excluding the “without” selection.
As with all racing specials, Betting Without bets are settled using the official results and the Rules of Racing.
18. Horse racing special rules
18.1 Enhanced multiples (Bet Boosts)
If any selection becomes a non‑runner, the entire bet is void, regardless of the other results.
Betano reserve the right to settle the bet at SP if significant non‑runners affect the structure of the races involved.
18.2 Top jockey or trainer - Season or meeting
Settlement is based on the officially declared result.
18.3 Daily Racing Specials/Festival Specials
Daily Racing Specials may be subject to Rule 4 deductions based on the Tattersalls system, although Betano aims to avoid applying them whenever possible.
Daily Racing Specials relating to the number of winners for a jockey are settled based on the total winners at the selected meeting.
Abandonments or cancellations.
Single‑meeting Special: any non‑runners or abandoned/void races → the bet is void unless the outcome has already been determined.
Multi‑meeting Special: if any included meeting is abandoned → all bets void, regardless of other outcomes.
If there are joint or co‑favourites, for settlement purposes the favourite is the horse with the lowest race card number.
Daily Racing Specials that involve place markets will use Standard place terms
Daily Racing Specials for a single race do not qualify for, Best Odds Guaranteed, Double Result, Any other promotions or concessions.
In favourite related markets if the favourite is withdrawn and no new market is formed; bets settle on the second favourite.
Daily Racing Specials exclude Arab (ARO) races, even when betting is offered on those races.
18.4 Distance-related bets
Any distance‑based markets (including those in Daily Racing Specials) follow these rules:
18.4.1 Maximum winning distance per race:
12 lengths for Flat races
30 lengths for National Hunt races
18.4.2 If a horse finishes alone, the maximum winning distance applies.
18.4.3 In a walkover, the winning distance is:
5 lengths for Flat
12 lengths for National Hunt
18.4.4 Winning distance is the officially declared distance between the first two horses that:
Completed the race,
Ran the correct course, and
Carried the correct weight.

Points are awarded as follows:
Win = 25 points
Second = 10 points
Third = 5 points
Unplaced = 0 points
Walkover or void race = 10 points
Additional rules:
If the favourite is withdrawn and no new market is formed → bets settle on the second favourite.
For joint or co‑favourites → for settlement purposes ,the favourite is the runner with the lowest race card number.
In a Dead‑Heat, points for the tied positions are added together and split equally.
Example: DH for 1st → (25 + 10) ÷ 2 = 17.5 points each
If a meeting is abandoned before all races run → bets void unless remaining races cannot affect the outcome.
Combined‑meeting markets are also void unless the abandoned races cannot affect the market.
ARO races are not included, even if betting is available.
18.6 Match betting
Bets are settled on the best finishing position. In the event of both runners failing to complete the course, bets are void. In the event of a dead heat, bets are void.
18.7 Place Only betting
18.8.1 In the event of a horse being withdrawn, not under starter’s orders, stakes on that selection will be returned.
Bets for the remaining horses in the race will be subject to a deduction in accordance with Tattersall’s 2(c) based on the win price of the withdrawn horse(s) at the time of withdrawal, (see Tattersall’s Rule 4 table above) e.g. Horse X priced at 4/1 in the win market and 1/1 in the 'place only' betting market is withdrawn then a Rule 4 deduction of 20p based on the 4/1 win price shall apply to the 'place only' betting market.
18.8.2 The number of places paid will be determined by the number of runners at the time the bet was struck e.g. If we are originally paying three places and the race is reduced to 7 or less runners, we shall still pay 3 places. The only exception to this is when the number of runners is equal to or less than the number of places on offer. In this instance all bets are void.
18.8.3 Normal dead-heat rules apply.
18.8.4 Double Result concession does not apply to this market.
18.9 Lengthen the Odds - Rules
